Once you purchase Bristly, your dog is well on their way to taking control of their own dental health.
When it comes to Bristly and your dog, there are a few things you should know.
If you’ve been lucky enough to be a pet parent to multiple dogs throughout your life, you know that each and every dog is different. Every dog you meet has a different personality from the last, and that affects their behavior. This is especially true when it comes to chewing and toys. Some dogs may prefer plush toys, while others prefer squeaky. Some may prefer Kongs; others will like bones.
When choosing the right functional toy for your dog, such as Bristly, it’s always important to consider their preferences. If your dog loves one type of chew toy or bone, and not another, that will be a deciding factor about whether you picked the right toy.
When purchasing a new toy for your dog, you should always consider the following:
- Does your dog like to play with toys?
- What kind of toys does your dog like; what kind does he/she dislike?
Unfortunately, not all dogs take to Bristly right away. But, you can make conscious efforts to help your dog understand how to brush their own teeth using our unique toy. Even if your dog likes plush toys, you can train them to enjoy their Bristly, regardless of how they’ve played in the past.
After you take your Bristly out of the package, your dog might not want to chew right away. That’s okay. Not all dogs are super chewers who want to chew everything in sight all the time. If you’re having continuous problems getting your dog to use their Bristly, contact us, and we’ll work with you to ensure that we do everything possible to help you tailor your approach to give your pup the best chance of success with Bristly.
We recommend that you start by showing your dog his or her new Bristly. Whether or not they seem interested immediately, they should learn that it belongs to them. After that, put dog toothpaste through the opening and let them sniff, lick, and play until they get the hang of it.
Dogs should be chewing sideways so that they can reach the back and front of their teeth simultaneously. If you notice your dog chewing incorrectly, or on the paw pads, make sure to correct their behavior so that they can get the most out of Bristly.
What that means is that it’s a toy, but it’s meant to provide value to your dog other than giving him or her something fun to do. Bristly should be used like a toothbrush and should be used in your dog’s daily routine.
Just like your parents did with you when you were young, implementing a daily brushing routine means that your dog (and you) will never forget to brush! Your dog will understand that Bristly is meant to be used during a certain time of day for a certain purpose, and with a continuous this routine, the more effective brushing time will be.
